TOP 5 FOODS FOR GLOWING SKIN

It’s all about the melatonin (the word actually means skin-whitening). By this I envisage a radiant, glowing, luminizing, had-10-hours-sleep look (MUM HACK: fake it with this pot of make-up RMS Living Luminzer).

Melatonin is used to treat insomnia and jet lag so stock up on the below foods and watch your skin glow:

  1. SPINACH / KALE

I order both of these by the truckload. Loaded with calcium, which helps the brain to manufacture melatonin. Start using huge handfuls in morning smoothies and add to a stir-fry, omelette, stir in soup, just use it as the base for any dish so you’re covered.

  1. WALNUTS

These tasty little omega-3 fatty acids contain their own source of melatonin, which can help you fall asleep faster (ideal when you need to drop everything for your power nap). When eaten on their own, they make you thirsty which is a good way of drinking more water. Try our Vegan Walnut Caramel Slice for a sweet gooey treat.

  1. MUSHROOMS

I’ve only recently become a real mushroom fan when I discovered how tasty they are raw. I usually dip one in hummus for a quick snack but have just started to add them to my green smoothie bowls, They are set to be huge this year. Check out this article from our friends at Honest To Goodness. Mushies have calming properties and boost your immune system. Make mine a mushroom latte.

  1. BEETROOT

I love the thought of beetroot juice giving my cheeks a healthy pink glowing tinge from within. For that reason, I always order a carrot, beetroot, apple and ginger juice when I’m out as it just goes everywhere (and stains everything) when I try and use it at home. It’s a rich source of antioxidants that helps to prevent the appearance of wrinkles. Say no more.

  1. DARK CHOCOLATE

YESSS! Thought I’d save the best ’til last. Dark chocolate helps skin stay hydrated and protects skin from sun damage which is ideal living in Australia. It’s even better to make your own so you know exactly what’s in it (and can eat as much as you like). Try our super-quick and easy 3-ingredient recipe for homemade Rustic Chocolate Revel Hearts.
